The key hair trends for the season echoed A/W 08 fashion’s story of contrasts.

The dramatic pulled-back ‘Super Sleek’ look was teamed with the austere designs at Balenciaga, while the tousled hair of the ‘Long & Loose’ style worked perfectly with Gucci’s Russian bohemian look.

A key hair trend hot on the heels of the bold colour statements seen at Emporio Armani, Blumarine, Valentino and Dior is ‘Statement Colour’. Hyper-real brunettes and redheads packed a punch, while blondes toned down their tresses with warm champagne shades.

The ‘Retro’ hair look saw styles from the past brought-up to date for the modern day. Graeme Black embraced the trend with hair cleverly tucked under to create the illusion of 30s, 40s and 50s bobs, whilst Dior flaunted the 60s beehive.

Hair made a further statement with clever contrasts and ‘Glowing Textures’ at Ossie Clark, Vivienne Westwood and Nicole Farhi. Textured tendrils or a worked fly-away look gave a softer feel to groomed styles, perfectly catching the catwalk lights to give a dramatic textured halo effect.
