PR 3.0

***

A South Eastern European IPRA conference took place on the 13th of February 2009 in Sofia, on the topic “PR 3.0 - Challenges and opportunities of communicating with the new information society in today’s complex digital media environment!”

International South East European IPRA Conference

The conference was the biggest event in the area of communications that has ever been held in Bulgaria thus far and it gathered more than 250 specialists from 22 countries from Europe and the rest of the world. The role of the Internet and the new social networks with regard to corporate and political communications was discussed throughout the day through presentations and debates.

Nowadays, the business known as PR brings together media relations, relations between blogs and relations with consumers. This is PR 3.0. Which are the social networks that people know and use? What makes a social network successful and how do you measure its success? The undeniable advantages of global real-time communication, the vast number of channels through which potential clients or partners can be reached, and the possibilities of conducting political campaigns online were all looked at in the light of consumers’ interests and protection while using the Internet. The open debate on the role of business as a public diplomat of its own country and a creator and supporter of the latter’s image, was provocative and intriguing.

At an official ceremony after the conference, which was then followed by a cocktail, Maria Gergova - Managing director of United Partners took over the IPRA presidency for the year of 2009. She is the first representative from a South Eastern European country to hold the post. She took over the presidency from Robert Grupp in the presence of seven former presidents of the international organization.

IPRA chose the young singer Polly Genova to perform her single Lifetime’s Not Enough at the official cocktail.

IPRA’s conference for South Eastern Europe was welcomed and supported by Mrs. Meglena Kuneva - EU Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, and Mrs. Mariela Baeva - Member of the European Parliament.
